The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Continental CEO Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki visited the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat this morning. He interacted with members of staff and held a meeting during which he gave an update on the much-awaited transformation of NEPAD to the African Union Development Agency (AUDA), which is expected to happen in a few months time. This transformation will see the agency’s mandate in the continent expanded and the scope of programmes become bigger.

At the Moment, NEPAD is working on several development programmes including supporting infrastructure projects in African countries, initiatives on climate change, agriculture, and food security, vocational training and skills initiative for Africa, Sustainable Energy for All among others.

Dr. Mayaki, who served as Niger’s Prime Minister several years ago thanked the Kenya Country office for progress made in driving the NEPAD process noting that the programmes undertaken by country offices offer a direct benefit to the continental platform.

The Continental CEO was accompanied by Mr. Symerre Grey Johnson, Head of Regional Integration, Infrastructure and Trade and Mr. Adama Deen, Head of Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).

In Kenya, the NEPAD/APRM Secretariat is anchored on the State Department for Planning under The National Treasury and Planning.
