The NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Amb. Dr. Samori Okwiya, is currently undertaking a workshop aimed at reviewing the status of the implementation of Kenya’s 2nd Country Review Report and NPoA (National Plan of Action) from 13th – 15th March 2024 in Mombasa, Kenya.

workshop aimed at reviewing the status of the implementation of Kenya’s 2nd Country Review Report and NPoA (National Plan of Action) from 13th – 15th March 2024 in Mombasa, Kenya.

The progress report will illustrate how governance is playing around the country through the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) thematic areas; Democratic and National Governance, Social Economic Governance, Economic Governance and Management, and Corporate Governance.

The National Plan of Action, serves as a vital roadmap for the nation’s future. The Country Review Report is a candid mirror reflecting the strengths and weaknesses of the nation. Consequently, it is an independent assessment conducted by the secretariat which provides an objective view of the country’s progress on critical issues. The Secretariat ensures that NPoA doesn’t just identify the destination but also outlines the steps to get there. Additionally, it details specific goals and objectives among them; improving access to education, protecting endangered species and establishes clear timelines for achieving these goals.

The report is set to serve as a thorough examination, pinpointing areas of improvement, like robust economic growth, alongside areas that require attention, such as income inequality, identifying the best practices implemented by other nations, offering inspiration and potential solutions.

Despite the challenges, success stories abound.  The NPoA is meant to spark the development of new policies, leading to stronger safeguards against corruption or environmental degradation as well as foster collaboration between sectors, creating a united front for positive change.

Through this workshop Kenya is assured to be a cornerstone of good governance by learning, adapting, and striving for excellence. By embracing its recommendations and actively utilizing the National Plan of Action, Kenya can transform this reflection into a catalyst for a brighter future.
