The County Government of Turkana, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, is set to embark on the County Peer Review Mechanism, following a courtesy visit to the Deputy County Secretary Turkana County Mr. Joseph Nyang’a by the Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat Amb. The Director APRM & Governance Mr. Peter Kimemia outlined that the CPRM process starts with training of the County Research Team who prepare self-assessment reports and conduct key informant Interviews and ward level focus group discussions on the devolved functions. There after a panel of eminent persons reviews and validates the findings contained in the compiled reports. The validated report is then presented at the National CPRM Summit where the participating Governors peer review each other.

Consequently, the courtesy visit today saw deliberations between officials from NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat and the County Government of Turkana on the forthcoming peer review process and the vital role it will play in enhancing governance and development within Turkana County. The Peer Review Mechanism is designed to evaluate and improve the performance of county governments, promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance across Kenya.
During the visit, Mr. Nyang’a expressed the counties commitment to the review process, highlighting it as a valuable opportunity for Turkana to benchmark its progress, identify areas for improvement, and foster a culture of continuous development. Additionally, he acknowledged the collaborative effort between Turkana County and the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat, emphasizing the importance of their partnership in achieving the county’s development goals.
