The NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat has successfully sensitized 68% of Kenya’s counties on the African Union Agenda 2063; Africa’s blueprint and master plan for transforming the continent into the global powerhouse of the future.
Agenda 2063 is a strategic blueprint aimed at fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development across Africa over a span of 50 years. It seeks to optimize the continent’s resources for the benefit of all Africans. The Agenda is designed to be rolled out through successive ten-year implementation plans from 2014 to 2063.

The first 10 year implementation plan underscored the need for creation of awareness. In response, the Secretariat launched dissemination and capacity building workshops targeting Kenyan counties to equip county officials with knowledge on the Agenda and how to intergrate it into their county plans. This comes after a directive by H.E President William Ruto during the Devolution Conference, where he emphasized that counties are integral to the successful implementation of Agenda 2063, describing them as “the last-mile implementors” of the Agenda.
The Secretariat has been in close collaboration with the State Department for Economic Planning on the dissemination exercises
Since the dissemination exercise kicked off in October 2024, the Secretariat has successfully reached 37 of Kenya’s 47 counties. Among the counties that have been sensitized are Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Nakuru, HomaBay, Bomet, Laikipia, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Embu, Kericho, Kiambu, Tharaka nithi, Baringo, Narok, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nyamira, Nandi, Kisumu, Migori, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Turkana, Vihiga, West Pokot, Mandera, Samburu, Nairobi, Isiolo, Meru, Vihiga, Narok and Trans Nzoia. Additionally, The sensitization program has not only targeted counties but also involved representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), thus increasing awareness and promoting collaboration across sectors for the effective implementation of the Agenda.
The impacts of the engagements will be seen in the alignment of Kenya’s development priorities with the continental goals, creating a cohesive national and regional approach to sustainable growth and development.
The successful outreach to the counties is a milestone in enhancing national ownership and participation in implementing Agenda 2063, ensuring that the aspirations of the continent’s future are embedded in Kenya’s development planning. By empowering county officials the Secretariat is setting the stage for long-term, inclusive growth that aligns with the continent’s broader vision for transformation.
