“Good Governance is a prerequisite for Sustainable Development.” observed H.E Simon Kachapin, the Governor, of the Great County of West Pokot today during a courtesy call made on him by a NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat team.
The primary aim of the courtesy call was to sensitize the Governor and the County officials (County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers and Directors about the rationale, structure, objective, and benefits of the CPRM process (CPRM), which is a Governance Self-Assessment tool for facilitating experience sharing, reinforcement of best practices, identification of deficiencies and capacity building needs to foster policies, standards and practices that lead to political stability, high economic growth and good governance.

During the discussions, H.E Governor Kachapin emphasized that good governance is essential for achieving sustainable development, highlighting its role in promoting democratic dialogue between citizens and their government. His remarks underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in fostering community engagements and trust.
During his presentation, Mr. Peter Kimemia, Director of APRM and Governance, elaborated on the County Peer Review Mechanism process. He noted that the mechanism produces invaluable insights and accurate data, helps counties to showcase best practices and creates avenues for cross-learning among counties. This collaborative approach, according to Mr. Kimemia, is instrumental in driving progress and enhancing governance across the region.

The interaction marks a vital step towards strengthening governance frameworks in West Pokot with the aim of continuously improving service delivery performance.
